‘¡HAVANA!,’ DIRECTED BY WARREN CARLYLE, FEAT. RSO SONGS

This spring, the new musical ¡HAVANA! will premiere, directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, and featuring songs and additional lyrics by RSO.

Commissioned by Norwegian Creative Studios, ¡HAVANA! also includes songs by Cuban pop sensation and Grammy Award winner Albita, with a book by David Solomon, costume design by Isabel Toledo and set design by Ruben Toledo. The show will first open on the maiden voyage of the newly built Norwegian Bliss.

After three years, there’s new RSO sheet music at the store.

Music+Lyrics by Ryan Scott Oliver: Volume 4, featuring 16 brand new songs, including never-before-released tunes from Rope, We Foxes, 35mm: A Musical Exhibition, and Jasper in Deadland, and the complete vocal score for Otherbody, a Brief Musical Allegory are now available to purchase as digital downloads.

Individual songs contained in Volume 4, including “Roots Dig Deep” and “Dark Dark Dark” from Otherbody, are also available to purchase.

NYMF PRESENTS ‘OTHERBODY’ IN CONCERT

RSO and Nessie Nankivell’s Otherbody, a Brief Musical Allegory will be presented by the New York Musical Theatre Festival on Monday night, July 31 at 8:00pm.

Featured as part of How the Light Gets In: An Evening of New American Micro-Musical Works, each piece in the evening – 30 minutes or less – is commissioned by NYMF (with support from The ASCAP Foundation and Jan Brandt), in an effort to create more space for arts-based civic engagement in our Festival. Directed by Jonathan McCrory (National Black Theatre) and co-curated by Zhailon Levingston (Broadway Advocacy Coalition), participating artists also include Ty Defoe and Tidtaya Sinutoke with WATER IS LIFE and Lelund Durond Thompson and Jason Michael Webb with ILATHI: THE GIFT.  A moderated conversation with artists discussing the process of developing their micro-musicals will follow the concert.

Performing Otherbody will be Sean Green, Jr. as The Teller, with Bethany Perkins, Miles Josephson, Ali Stroker, and Jada Temple as The Wind.  Rodney Bush music directs.

THE ORCHARD PROJECT DEVELOPS ‘THREE POINTS OF CONTACT’

World renowned writer’s haven The Orchard Project has announced RSO as one of its 2017 writers-in-residence..

RSO will work in its brand new Cabaret and Musical Theatre Program, which launched last year in partnership with Putnam Den. This year, the Orchard Project has made annual favorite Julian Fleisher Director of Cabaret and Musical Theatre and will host new work by a slew of the most exciting artists around, including RSO.

While at the Orchard Project, RSO will begin work on THREE POINTS OF CONTACT, the conclusion of the Dogs Trilogy (begun by WE FOXES and continued by ROPE).  ‘3PC’ tells the story of newlyweds Pooch and Amy Harvey, and is a contemporary piece about love, sex, and marriage.

BROADWAYCON OPENS JAN. 27 WITH NEW RSO MUSICAL

On Friday, January 26, BroadwayCon will open at the Javits Center with a brand-new forty-five minute musical by RSO, featuring Alice Ripley, Carolee Carmello, Anthony Rapp, James Monroe Iglehart, LESLI MARGHERITA and more.

 

RSO wrote the script and an original song for the piece — which tells the story of Carl (Sam Tanabe) who must stop the hateful, corrupt politician @Mayoress (Lesli Margherita) from banning Broadway! Additional material is by Tessa Netting, David Alpert and Andrew Briedis.

Thousands of Broadway fans are expected to attend the second-ever BroadwayCon.  From celebrity talkbacks, to first-look performances and workshops, BroadwayCon 2017 will be packed with unforgettable experiences. BroadwayCon brings you through the stage door to be part of the excitement that happens onstage and behind-the-scenes. It is a place where Broadway fans come together to celebrate the shows they love with people who bring them to life. It’s co-presented by Playbill, Mischief Management, and Anthony Rapp.
